This value is mathematically achievable because the analysis also accounts for avoided emissions (such as methane emissions from manure that are prevented when that manure is used to produce biomethane/bio-LNG).**

Where can I find Westfalen's LNG filling stations?

The first Westfalen LNG filling station opened in Münster-Amelsbüren back in 2020. Today, you can also conveniently refuel with bio-LNG at locations in Herford, Herne, and Cologne.

All Westfalen LNG stations operate 24/7. Serving as central hubs, they combine alternative fuels with a wide range of products and services: every location features a bistro, and the Cologne site also includes a Burger King.

*The feedstocks used for the LNG offered consist exclusively of biogenic residues and waste materials (e.g., liquid or solid manure) in accordance with Directive (EU) 2023/2413 ("RED III"), which amends Directive (EU) 2018/2001 ("RED II"), including Annexes V & VI.

**With Westfalen Bio-LNG, greenhouse gas emissions can be more than 100% lower compared to diesel (based on a reference value of 94 gCO2e/MJ). Calculations are based on total CO2e life-cycle emissions (CO2e emissions from fuel production to end-use in the vehicle) in accordance with Directive (EU) 2023/2413 ("RED III"), which amends Directive (EU) 2018/2001 ("RED II"), including Annexes V & VI.
Certified proof of compliance (typically RED/ISCC) is provided by the Bio-CNG producer and may vary by batch.
Westfalen works exclusively with suppliers who fully meet the certification requirements set out in the aforementioned EU directives and provide the corresponding Nabisy proofs of compliance.

How many Westfalen LNG filling stations are there in Germany?

With locations in Münster, Herford, Herne, and Cologne, there are currently four Westfalen LNG filling stations in Germany operating 24/7 for heavy-duty transport. All locations offer 100% bio-LNG.

How do LNG filling stations differ from other filling stations?

The crucial difference is that cryogenic liquefied natural gas is refuelled here instead of conventional fuel. Since this is cooled down to about -162 °C and is highly flammable, you must be instructed for the refuelling process, wear protective equipment when refuelling and follow a set set of instructions at the pump.

How long does the refuelling process take?

With all the necessary steps, the LNG refuelling process takes about 10 minutes, which is only slightly longer than is the case with conventional fuels such as diesel.

What do I have to consider when refuelling with liquefied natural gas (LNG)?
