Westfalen filling station in Münster is filling station of the year

Customers can use it as a self-service checkout to pay for fuel and shop purchases and to buy car wash vouchers. The award is presented each year by the trade magazine “tankstelle” in various categories.

"Especially in this day and age, it's not easy to find gas station staff. The self-service checkout therefore takes some of the pressure off us, especially at peak times, and ultimately reduces waiting times for our customers,” says Jörg Binding, the station's partner. Since the self-service checkout was introduced, usage has risen steadily. In addition to fuel, drinks and confectionery are among the products most frequently scanned by customers.

Just last year, the gas station's 250-square-meter Alvore shop was modernized, with a greater focus on food and beverages and encouraging customers to stay longer. The self-checkout is now another step in the transformation process, as Sandra Schütte, Head of Mobility at Westfalen, explains: “Gas stations are currently undergoing a transformation process. Customer needs are constantly changing and alternative drive energies are becoming increasingly important. We therefore need innovations to respond to these needs and ultimately secure the future viability of our stations. A diverse range of products in the shop plays a central role here, but so do flexible and intuitive digital payment solutions such as the self-checkout.”
